Title: Plant Manager

Location: Scottsbluff, Nebraska

 

Position Overview

The Western Sugar Cooperative has a challenging opportunity for a Plant Manager position.  This position is responsible for all day-to-day plant operations; including processing, packaging, warehousing, shipping, capital projects and maintenance at our Scottsbluff, NE facility.  The person will report to the Vice President of Operations.  The position requires a very dynamic person with the ability to provide solid people leadership while taking responsibility for the entire site.  The role requires someone with several years of beet sugar processing experience and a proven track record of leading people.

 

Essential Functions

  • Be a safety leader with solid safety behaviors and demonstrated leadership. Working with others to perform against the plant site safety plan with the goal of being a zero injury workplace
  • Set clear direction for operating at a high level of performance vs. industry standards
  • Improve standard operating procedures for a disciplined approach and better outcomes
  • Establish clear metrics to review results in a timely manner for accountability
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Manager and Process Manager to ensure proper preventative maintenance is occurring
  • Lead the effort with others to maintain a clean and facility environment
  • Track and manage expenses versus agreed upon annual budget
  • Provide solid people leadership living our Core Values of: Safety, Integrity, Openness & Trust, Teamwork, Entrepreneurship, and Social Responsibility
  • Meet with direct reports in a formal way twice per year to review performance. These are two-way feedback sessions to assist improvement for you and the employee
  • When needed, hold people accountable administering the collective bargaining agreement. Ensure employee grievances are addressed in a timely manner
  • Help implement a customer focus strategy of leading customer service, competitive cost position, and high quality & innovative products
  • With the support of cooperative management, comply with all regulatory agencies like: OSHA, EPA, USDA, FDA, FLSA, EEO, and NLRB

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Proven ability to lead a large sugar beet processing operation
  • Successful sugar beet operations leadership experience with multiple direct reports
  • Strong leadership skills focused on developing others
  • Experience providing leadership and guidance over a solid preventative maintenance program
  • Continuous improvement program knowledge & application to reduce waste and improve financial performance
  • Experience using a root cause analysis process to identify the true cause of problems to be resolved
  • Proven fiscal responsibility (financial planning, budgeting, variance reporting, etc.)
  • Labor relations experience for both salaried and hourly workforces
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects well
  • Supply-chain knowledge and experience
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) & SAP
  • Proficient knowledge of regulatory requirements and agencies (EPA, OSHA, USDA, HACCP / SSOP’s)
  • Friendly, collaborative, and accomplishes a great deal

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent working experience, Master’s degree a plus
