Position Overview

The Operating Electrician is responsible for the preventative and predictive electrical maintenance of all our manufacturing equipment.  The position is also responsible for troubleshooting, repair, and improves the functionality and reliability for all electrical, electromechanical, installations and repairs.

 

Essential Functions

  • Be a safety leader with solid safety behaviors and demonstrated leadership while working with others to achieve the site safety plan’s goal of being a zero-injury workplace. Knowledge & understanding of the 10 Life Saving Rules
  • Commitment to regular attendance, no NCNS or discipline for attendance
  • A basic knowledge & understanding of Western Sugar’s quality program including BRC, GMP and HACCP programs
  • Basic knowledge of Western Sugar’s environmental programs including Title V (air quality), NPDES (wastewater discharge) and SPCC (spill prevention & hazardous materials)
  • Responsible for supporting and adhering to the Company’s core values
  • Be able to read and interpret electrical schematics for the plant
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals
  • Knowledgeable of electrical nominal voltages of 24VDC, 110 VAC through 480 VAC 3 phase
  • Knowledgeable of AC and DC industrial control systems and VFD’s
  • Participate in root cause and corrective actions to process chokepoints
  • Installation of conduit, wire, electrical boxes, lighting and switches in a neat correct manner and to NEC code
  • Basic troubleshooting of Motor Control Centers, switch gears, thermal overloads and motor starters
  • Requires multi-tasking and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills-enter, retrieve and analyze data
  • Possess time management and organizational skills
  • Work well in a team environment and independently
  • Willingness and ability to work shifts, call-ins, holiday and overtime
  • Must be able to join the Teamsters Union

 

Skill & Experience Requirements

  • Two year technical degree or equivalent experience required
  • Strong electrical experience working with voltage of 24dc to 480ac and Control Power
  • Basic understanding of multi-meter and testing equipment
  • Proven trouble shooting skills and ability
  • Willingness to clean and maintain a clean and safe Maintenance area
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of sugar factory processes a plus
