Position Overview

The Western Sugar Cooperative has a challenging opportunity for an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer.   This position would be responsible for analyzing all electrical, automation and instrumentation activities at the site.  Included in this would be new installations, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.  This position would be required to provide direction, training, and hands on involvement in all aspects of the facility.  This position reports to the Maintenance Manager.

 

Essential Functions

  • Be a safety leader with solid safety behaviors and demonstrated leadership
  • Develops robust reliability plans to for electrical, automation and instrumentation systems
  • Responsible for the electrician & instrumentation department which includes providing direction, follow-up, coaching, training, and work discipline
  • Lead, develop, and participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions to solve problems
  • Evaluates Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to plan resources to support sugar production
  • Responsible for continuous improvement, including the utilization of the tools for Lean Manufacturing
  • Develops and is responsible for effectively managing a budget in this designated area(s)

Electrical:

  • Interpret mechanical design drawings for electrical requirements
  • Broad knowledge of motor control systems including variable frequency drives (e.g. AB, ABB, Yokogowa, Danfoss)
  • Research supplier products for assembly components
  • Develop an accumulative Bill of Material (BOM) for drawings and other production needs.
  • Power up electrical systems and configure hardware per application specifications
  • Maintain and manage 4160V switchgear and power distribution
  • Responsible for the steam turbine power generation operation

 

Instrumentation and Automation:

  • Understanding Data management (e.g., virtual basic, C++, Microsoft SQL servers, HMI servers, PLC servers)
  • Understanding and design of fiber and ethernet based networks
  • Familiar with alarming reporting software and remote access applications
  • Familiar with filed specifications of instrumentation and controls with regulatory standards, design criteria, and code relevant to instrumentation and controls
  • Exposure to multiple PLC manufactures and platforms
  • Extensive knowledge of all instrumentation for flow, temperature, pressure, turbidity, level, gases, and density

 

Skill & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, with an emphasis on a degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Prefer 5-10 years’ experience in the technical electrical field
  • Requires broad technical and administrative experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry
  • Experienced in PLC and other control systems
  • Experienced in industrial Human Machine Interfaces
  • Familiarity with SQL data formats and collection systems
  • Experienced in power distribution for medium and high voltage industrial systems
  • Experience with process instrumentation for pressure, flow, temperature, level, and analytic measurement
  • Broad troubleshooting skills for electrical equipment and analog and digital instrumentation
  • Knowledge of Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Familiar with electrical codes
  • Training in reliability concepts and approaches
  • Knowledge of arc flash requirements and all OSHA electrical compliance standards.
  • Ability to think and develop both tactical and strategic plans
  • Excellent computer competence (i.e., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SAP-HANA, safety process software)
  • Must be able to handle several priorities at one time
  • Solid leadership and influencing skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, group facilitation, and presentation skills
  • Friendly, results oriented, and collaborative
