Position Overview:
Develop and manage materials planning function for goods and materials demanded by Western Sugar Cooperative’s customers. Create item specific forecasts over a rolling time horizon to be used for ordering and inventory management purposes. Create integrated processes among Operations, Logistics, Sales, and outside suppliers to execute the planning/replenishment process. Identify systems tools needed to implement planning/forecasting systems. Lead reengineering efforts as they relate to supply chain planning and execution systems.
Manage and supervise staff tasked with creating material requirement plans and/or forecasts for bulk, industrial and retail sugar products; establish key performance metrics and benchmarks relating to supply chain planning/ forecasting; measure actual performance against goals on regular basis and present results to senior management; become familiar with the development, use and implementation of planning and forecasting systems; apply expertise to specify system functionality; travel as required to enroll companywide management in the planning/forecasting process and utilize computer software programs (SAP, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting.
Essential Functions

- Package production planning and scheduling activities including:
- Meet customer delivery requirements
- Achieve inventory in-stock goals
- Effective utilization of package line capacities
- Coordinate maintenance down-time schedules between sales and operations
- Coordinate material requirements
- Evaluate sales forecast versus planned production
- Rail and truck transportation activities including:
- Meet customer delivery requirements
- Develop and maintain relationship with BNSF and UP railroads
- Manage leased railcar fleet
- Coordinate loading capacity with operations
- Rate negotiations
- Resolve service issues with customers, sales, and customer Service
- Coordinate coal shipments to factories through coordination with operations
- Coordinate molasses and pellet shipments with operations/agriculture
- Finished goods inventory management:
- Meet customer delivery requirements
- Facilitate campaign storage clearance
- Efficient utilization of storage assets
- Develop and coordinate third-party logistics activities:
- Contract packaging
- Public warehousing
- Outside warehousing
- Key administrative responsibilities:
- Personnel supervision, evaluation, and development at the corporate level and as needed to support the field staff
- Develop logistics G & A and freight budgets
- Monthly budget variance analysis
- Develop shipping/packaging/receiving plans for operations
- USDA Reporting
- Swap Management and Title Transfer Management
Skill & Experience Requirements
- Friendly, results oriented, and collaborative
- BS/BA degree
- Experience managing, scheduling, planning for multiple locations (4 Processing Plants & 8 Terminals)
- 5+ years of related MRP or product specific forecasting in a manufacturing or distribution environment
- SAP system experience preferred
- Understanding of integrated supply chain and logistic concepts
- Ability to communicate supply chain objectives clearly and convey the benefits to the organization
- Experience in implementing planning/forecasting system (TMS/MRP) preferred
- Proficient in MS Excel
- Excellent analytical abilities
- Experience in the food/beverage or agricultural commodity processing industry is preferred
- Excellent team building and project management skills
Working Relationship:
The Director of Supply Chain will report to the Senior Vice President/CFO, but will also build strong partnerships with sales, customer service, and plant leadership teams. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate and apply strong knowledge and leadership within supply chain and logistic area.
