Position Overview

The Boiler House Operator is responsible for overseeing that boilers are running correctly during campaign as well as minor repairs if needed. During inter-campaign all maintenance on the boilers to get them operational for the next campaign. The Boiler House Operator reports to the Factory Shift Supervisor and the Maintenance Manager. Skills, Knowledge,Ability, Training, and Experience will be considered in the selection for this position

 

Essential Functions

  • Be a safety leader with solid safety behaviors and demonstrated leadership while working with others to achieve the site safety plan’s goal of being a zero-injury workplace. Knowledge & understanding of the 10 Life Saving Rules.
  • A basic knowledge & understanding of Western Sugar’s quality program including BRC, GMP and HACCP programs
  • Basic knowledge of Western Sugar’s environmental programs including Title V (air quality), NPDES (wastewater discharge) and SPCC (spill prevention & hazardous materials)
  • Commitment to regular attendance, no NCNS or discipline for attendance
  • Responsible for supporting and adhering to the Company’s core values
  • Ensures that Stoker/Water Tenders are trained to perform the task of the job required on the shift in all aspects of safety, quality and operations
  • Maintain housekeeping standards to ensure a clean and safe workplace
  • Must be capable to do minor boiler repairs during campaign operations and repair and maintenance during inter campaign.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Skill & Experience Requirements

  • Must possess a Class 2 or Class 1 boiler license
  • Knowledge of computers
  • Willingness and ability to work shifts, call-ins, vacations, holiday and overtime
  • Excellent teamwork, cooperation and problem-solving skills as well as being able to work independently
  • Possess time management skills and ability to stay focused on job duties even during stressful situations
  • Understand and maintain a continuous 24-hour concept and operation in the warehouse
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good math skills
  • Must be a self-starter who strives to succeed
  • Mechanical ability for minor machine repairs
  • Possess a minimum set of quality hand tools
  • Ability to trouble shoot
  • Understanding of basic lubrication
  • Understanding of boiler operations and maintenance (coal and gas)
  • Prior experience Boiler house experience
