Position Overview
- We are seeking an experienced Financial Manufacturing Controller to oversee and manage all financial and control aspects of our plant manufacturing operations across Western Sugar. The ideal candidate will have a solid manufacturing background with direct experience monitoring and analyzing costs and inventory production and usages in a factory operating environment. This position will report to our Corporate Controller and will work closely with our corporate and factory-based operations, maintenance, and processing teams to better monitor, control and find opportunities to improve our costs of factory operations.
Essential Functions

- Work closely and be a valued business partner with our operations, processing, maintenance, and plant management teams to ensure information and data is accurate and timely to enhance decision making.
- Track and analyze our factory manufacturing costs including labor, maintenance, energy, supplies, and overhead expenses to ensure our costs are accurately reported.
- Monitor and routinely audit inventory measurements and cycle counts to ensure the accuracy of inventories produced, consumed, and reported; ensure that goods and invoice receipts (GRIR) are accurate and current.
- Monitor and analyze our production of sugar and extraction yields and follow-up and report on material differences.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis in conjunction with our factory leadership teams.
- Communicate, report, and provide frequent analysis to corporate and factory leadership teams on production, costs, and control activities in our factories.
- Train and develop our factory personnel on our inventory and financial control policies and procedures to ensure proper controls are in place and are monitored.
- Analyze and explore cost improvement opportunities, working with cross-functional teams to execute on opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with the procurement team to ensure our factory costs, usages and inventories are reported and aligned to ensure we have the supplies needed to operate our factories and are reporting costs at procured prices.
- Special projects and work activities as required.
Skill & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 8+ years of experience in accounting / finance roles with manufacturing experience required.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and inventory control.
- Experience with SAP, Power BI, and Excel preferred.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to analyze complex data and develop and report insights.
- Team player, results oriented, and collaborative.
Working Relationship
- Reports to Corporate Controller
