Mr. Lackman started farming in 1980 after graduating from Montana State University Bozeman with a degree in Agriculture Education. His farming operation consists of raising sugarbeets, corn, wheat, malt barley, alfalfa hay and alfalfa seed.

He has been a member of the Southern Montana Sugarbeet Growers Association since 1980, serving as a board member for 17 years, and as President for 8 of those years. He is currently serving as President of the Rancher Ditch Company and is a member of the Lions Club and Community Presbyterian Church.
